Q: When will the next Ælven book be available?
A: What? There’s more?
Yes, there’s more. A fourth Blood of the Kindred book has been drafted but is not yet scheduled for publication. Maybe in 2015.
Q: What are you working on?
A: A fourth Wisteria Tearoom (Patrice Greenwood) mystery will come out in July 2015.
Coming in print soon: Galveston (P. G. Nagle, The Far Western Civil War book 3).
The Shadow Conspiracy III has been postponed, but when it comes out from Book View Café it will include another Marie LaVeau story.
Q: Where can I find a copy of your short story “Coyote Ugly?”
A: Coyote Ugly and Other Tales is a collection of mixed short fiction and is available as an ebook and in paperback. See Other Titles for more information.
Q: Does your short story “Coyote Ugly” have anything to do with the movie?
A: The only thing they have in common is the source of the title, an old joke that progresses from “one bag ugly” to “two bag ugly” to “coyote ugly.” The story came out in 1994, years before the movie. Alas, no movie option money for me from this one.
Q: Can you [give me various kinds of writing help]?
There’s lots of advice out there. The first thing I will advise any new writer is to be aware of the difference between mainstream publishing, self-publishing, and vanity press. Particularly the last two can confuse newcomers. Here’s a very clear article on that from Writer Beware.
Joe Konrath posted a wonderful encapsulation of the publishing industry on his blog.
Kate Elliot wrote a wonderful and detailed blog posting called Advice for first-time sff novelists. Actually it’s great advice for any genre novelist, and there are gems in there for most any writer.
For those of you wanting advice on finding an agent, I highly recommend you read Dean Wesley Smith’s Killing the Sacred Cows of Publishing blog series, especially the posts about agents. You will learn things about agents that you never realized.
Laura Resnick has written lots of advice for writers. Check her Writer’s Resource Page. She’s also published a book about her writing adventures, Rejection, Romance and Royalties: The Wacky World of a Working Writer.
